Remote 1-year contract, intent to extend Start within a month AI-native

AI-Native DevOps Engineer

We are a small, AI-native company that builds and operates production systems end to end. The work is real: live services, real users, real consequences when something breaks at 9 a.m. We are hiring our first dedicated infrastructure engineer to take systems that work from "running" to "running at scale, unattended".

What the role is

  • Own cloud infrastructure end to end. Provisioning, networking, TLS, cost. Lean cloud providers, sized by measurement rather than fashion.
  • Build deployment pipelines properly. CI-built immutable images, staged promotion (dev → staging → canary → production), versioned database migrations, rollback that is one tag away.
  • Make systems survivable. Backups with actual restore drills, failover, durable queues at ingestion points, Postgres care: partitioning, connection pooling, read replicas.
  • Observability from zero. Metrics, logs, alerts, SLOs, so a failure pages a person instead of waiting to be noticed.
  • Scale batch and burst workloads. Queue-driven worker pools, autoscaling for sharp daily peaks, multi-tenant scheduling.
  • Security fundamentals. Identity and role-based access, per-environment secrets, least privilege, third-party API quota management.
  • AI-native or do not apply. You live in Claude Code and Codex and move between them fluently. You know when to trust an agent's output and when to tear it up. This is not a nice-to-have; it is the job.

How we work

  • Freedom-heavy. Pick your hours, pick your tools, own your outcomes. Nobody watches you type. Some IST overlap for operational mornings.
  • Small and direct. You talk to founders, not through layers. Things ship in days, not quarters. Everything worth knowing is written down, and you keep it that way.

You

  • Fluent daily driver of Claude Code and Codex, with real shipped work to show: repos, agent workflows, MCP servers, eval suites. A traditional DevOps background with no agent fluency is a no.
  • Strong Linux, Docker, Postgres, CI/CD. GitHub Actions preferred; you have designed pipelines, not just used them.
  • Comfortable in Python, for services and for infra glue.
  • Have operated something real in production. Deploys, monitoring, the 3 a.m. incident that was yours, and what you changed afterwards.
  • Can start within a month.

Helps but not required: Kubernetes (we adopt it when measurement says so, not by default), cost-lean cloud providers, event and queue systems, India timezone context.

The deal

  • One-year contract, remote only, start within a month (sooner is better). Intent to extend.
  • We pay you in full and you manage your own taxes. We are a startup on a contract engagement, not a payroll shop, and we would rather the whole number reached you.

How to apply

Remote-only. One-year contract with intent to extend. We reply to every application that answers the first question.

  1. Something you have built or operated with an AI coding agent: a link or a short writeup. This is the first thing we read.
  2. The worst production incident you owned, in a paragraph: what broke, what you did, what changed after.
  3. Your earliest start date and your expected salary.
